information.
|
SITE: |
Strip mall with dry cleaner and beauty salon. |
|
BIODEGRADED MATERIAL: |
TCE, TCA |
|
SITE SURVEY: |
The site is a strip mall consisting of several retail
stores, each with its own septic tanks. Each septic system consists of a
cesspool. The owner sought to sell the property but, in the process,
discovered potential contamination. A Phase ll study detected levels of
contaminants reached as high as 18,690ppb.
After reviewing the Phase ll report, it was determined
that the contamination was contained within the septic wells. Bio Remedial
Technologies, Inc. an authorized installer of Bio Rem’s H-10 product,
was hired to remediate the dry cleaner’s cesspool and the beauty salon’s
cesspool. |
|
METHOD: |
Further investigation was conducted prior to the
bioremediation of this site. The investigation confirmed that the
contamination did not migrate outside the cesspool perimeters, but rather
was contained within the two cesspools, as can be found in the attaching
Phase ll Site Assessment.
Wells were drilled at four strategic points around each
of the two cesspools, and H-10 product was placed into the site.
Bioremediation at the dry cleaner began on May 27, 1995. Bioremediation at
the beauty salon began on May 28, 1995. A report by an independent lab
dated July 7, 1995, showed that in both cesspool, levels of all
contaminants dropped far below actionable levels. |
|
COMMENTS: |
The bioremediation process not only brought the levels
of the TCE and the TCA to a no-detect level, it also biodegraded other
known chemicals that can be found in the lab analysis, which follow. |
