In situ bioremediation was approved. The contamination
was treated without excavation. This was possible because Bio Rem’s
proprietary H-10 bacteria works in low-level oxygen conditions. The
bioremediation was conducted by placing bacteria, nutrients and water into
the monitor well. Weekly monitoring of the vapor from the well indicated
the progression of the treatment.
The treatment with Bio Rem H-10 bacteria began on Jan.
23, 1991 and the lab confirmed non-detect levels of BTEX in its report
dated April 12, 1991. The results were obtained using U.S. EPA Method
8020.
