Insitu bioremediation was approved. The contamination
was treated without excavation. This was possible because Bio Rem’s
proprietary H-10 bacteria works in low-level oxygen conditions. The
bioremediation was conducted by placing bacteria and water into the
infiltration borings. Monitoring of the vapors from the borings traced the
progression of the treatment.
The treatment with Bio Rem H-10 bacteria began on Oct.
15, 1991 and samples analyzed by an independent lab confirmed acceptable
levels of BTEX in their report dated June11, 1993. The results of the
laboratory analysis were obtained using U.S. EPA Method 8020.
