SITE:

Church in a residential area.

BIODEGRADED MATERIAL:

Fuel Oil.

SITE SURVEY:

A large church desired to build an addition to their facility. In the process of obtaining financing, a Phase l investigation noted the presence of an unused fuel oil tank. This UST was determined to present a risk to the property. The UST was removed and contamination was noted in the tank pit. The contaminated soil was removed and placed in a pile at the end of the parking lot.

The excavation was refilled with clean soil to minimize the hazard of the open excavation. Residential properties are located on three (3) sides of the property, including mostly single dwellings with some multi-family apartment buildings.

METHOD:

A pile was constructed at the end of the parking lot and the soil was remediated by lancing the pile. The use of Bio Rem’s H-10 product made it possible to clean the soil so that it could be used for landscaping around the new church addition.

COMMENTS:

The treatment of the contaminated soil in the pile at the property eliminated the need to truck the soil off-site and provided for landscaping fill with minimal hauling. The church also has no ties to a disposal site.

The remediation was accomplished in the middle of a residential area with no inconvenience or hazard to the surrounding residents. This site has received a "no further action" status by the state authority since the contamination was reduced to below state levels.
