SITE SURVEY: |
Previous subsurface investigations performed at this
site by others indicated several concerns, which prompted the need for an
additional subsurface investigation performed by Bio Rem of New York to
totally define the sites environmental integrity and remedial needs. The
audit determined that undiscovered petroleum underground storage tanks
were still present in this vacant site. The results of the soil and
groundwater sampling program taken from wells previously installed
indicated that dissolved hydrocarbon contamination existed in two of the
four wells (MW-3 and MW-4) located on the property. MW-4 was located in
close proximity to the source of the contamination, the UST field. Since
groundwater flow direction is in an easterly direction, this explained the
detection of dissolved hydrocarbon contamination in MW-3. The depth of
water at this site was recorded at thirty-six feet. |

METHOD: |
Four additional monitoring wells were installed to
complete the definition of the sites contaminated areas. The locations of
the newly installed monitoring wells were determined based on the
laboratory results and observations from the previous subsurface
investigation. The depths of these wells (40’) were determined based on
the previous subsurface investigations. In order to penetrate through the
refusal encountered all four well borings were installed via air rotary
drilling method. The wells were constructed following the NYSDEC’s State
Superfund Phase II Protocol. All underground storage tanks were removed
from the property following NYSDEC protocol. Upon successful completion of
the removal of the UST’s, the necessary tank closure reports were
prepared and submitted to the NYSDEC. Bio Rem of New York then created and
introduced a Corrective Action Work Plan in order to remediate the defined
contamination plume on site. Bio Rem’s H-10™ natural occurring
bacteria and insitu treatment method, utilizing monitoring wells for
bacteria solution applications was chosen to remediate the known defined
contaminate plume. Due to the successful completion of the remedial
activities in late February of 1998 permission was obtained from Mr. Mark
Tibbe, of the New York Sate Department of Conservation to close the
remedial action project and its corresponding activities at the vacant
lot.

COMMENTS: |
After review of continuous periodic monitoring and lab
analysis it was the determination of the NYSDEC the site had meet the
successful requirements to receive a "no
further action" status. The NYSDEC determined that the sites
analytical reports clearly reflected that the site level of contamination
had been remediated to NYSDEC acceptable limits. The property has no tie
to a disposal site, eliminating any future liabilities. After remediation
a new Walgreen’s Drug Store was built on this location. |
